VFW Post 5899 is proud to serve Washington, Wilkes County, and the surrounding area by supporting veterans, active-duty military personnel, military families, and our community. As a local chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, we are dedicated to honoring those who have served while continuing to make a positive impact through fellowship, service, and community involvement.

Our Mission

Our work focuses on four key areas:

Camaraderie – Building lasting friendships and support among combat veterans.
Advocacy – Helping veterans access the benefits, healthcare, and services they have earned.
Community Service – Supporting military families, partnering with local organizations, and promoting patriotism.
Youth Programs – Encouraging future leaders through scholarships, patriotic essay contests, and educational opportunities.
More Than a Veterans Organization

While VFW membership is reserved for eligible combat veterans, our post is a welcoming place for the entire community. We host events, meals, celebrations, and fellowship opportunities where veterans, families, businesses, and local organizations can come together.

VFW Post 5899 also offers an event space available for rent, making it a great location for meetings, reunions, birthday parties, celebrations, community gatherings, and other special occasions.
