The North Wilkes Steering Committee benefits the North Wilkes area and its people by giving back in many ways. They had the front of the old Bolton store painted and the welcome sign at the city limits refurbished. They placed planters around the town of Tignall and filled them with seasonal flowers and placed wreaths on doors of the old bank/library building and the old Bolton Store. They provide two $500 scholarships each year to two college freshmen and host the annual Tignall Christmas Parade.
Additionally, the Steering Committee also hosts the fabulous and fun, “I’d Rather be in Tignall” fall festival every November. The festival is filled with vendors, live entertainment, huge old photo/history display, a Veterans display, raffles and drawings. Memorial Bricks can be purchased that are placed on the Gazebo walkway in the community area. Festival proceeds are put back into the community.
