Shepeard Community Blood Center is a non-profit, 501 (C) (3) organization, established October 9, 1978. The corporation is operated for and by the community to collect, process and distribute blood and blood products. Shepeard Community Blood Center is proud to be able to provide blood and blood products to 21 local hospitals and 3 emergency air ambulance services.
The name honors Walter L. Shepeard, one of the Center’s founders. Dr. Shepeard was chairman of the Department of Medical Technology at the Medical College of Georgia and a nationally recognized specialist in blood banking.
Today, patients in local area hospitals are served with three fixed donation sites available in Aiken, SC, and Augusta and Evans, GA. Shepeard also has a fleet of blood mobiles that make donating blood convenient in approximately 30 counties in Georgia and South Carolina as well as Savannah River Site. There are locations available for community members to voluntarily donate blood, platelets and plasma 7 days a week.
